WESTPOLE AND CIPAL SCHAUBROECK: BACK-UP SECURED!
THE CHALLENGE
With ransomware attacks being a threat to the whole IT-sector and software available to bad actors,
Cipal Schaubroeck wanted to secure their current disk2disk backup solution even more.
These solutions have become the standard for backup over the last few years but the decline of tape in
backup solutions has left all backup copies now vulnerable for potential crypo-lockers and
ransomware.
THE SOLUTION
Although Cipal Schaubroeck’s customer data were safe and sound, they wanted to build an extra safety layer, to ensure their customer data protection. WESTPOLE proposed its backup-as-a-service solution based on our WESTPOLE object storage. The WESTPOLE object storage solution is a three datacenter based solutions that customers can use to store their data in a safe and solid manner. These three datacenters reside in Belgian territory making it ideal to store data that in general is not allowed to leave country borders. This local proximity also helps in providing connectivity towards our customers.
BETTER SAFE THEN SORRY
Also WESTPOLE recommended a third, tape based, copy on their local site with weekly
tape rotation also providing Cipal Schaubroeck with a third copy should internet lines ever be disrupted.
A BACK-UP OF THE BACK-UP
As mentioned, not only was decided to keep a secondary copy of the data in the
WESTPOLE object storage solution, it was also opted to place a secondary Backup server in the WESTPOLE datacenters connected to this copy. In case of disaster or that the primary backup server was attacked, all data is still readily available through the secondary server and copy. This gave Cipal Schaubroeck the trust and confidence that their secondary copy was in safe hands.
